Leave a Gift in Your Will to Charity.
GETTING STARTED
Writing your will is a significant step, but it's more straightforward than it may appear. Simply follow the steps below to ensure your wishes are carried out effectively.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR LOVED ONES
In discussions with your legal adviser, you'll also explore how to ensure your loved ones are well cared for in your will.
WORKING OUT YOUR ASSETS
To prepare your will, calculate the value of your assets and subtract any liabilities, like loans or debts. This process helps determine the net value of your estate.
It's important to remember Inheritance Tax. Inheritance Tax can be payable at the rate of 40% on the value of an estate over £325,000. The exact calculations can be complicated, so it is recommended to seek professional advice if your estate is likely to exceed this amount. Charity gifts are exempt from Inheritance Tax and by allocating at least 10% of your estate to charity, you may reduce the Inheritance Tax rate to 36% on the remainder of your estate, while supporting a cause that's important to you.
CHOOSING EXECUTORS
An executor is someone you designate to fulfil the terms of your will. You may choose one or more executors, including friends, family members, or legal professionals. Ensure they are willing and informed about their role. Note that professional executors may charge a fee.
